Panera Announces Return of Fan-Favorite Lobster Roll

Panera is bringing back two mouthwatering favorites to select Northeast locations of its fast-casual bakery-cafes: the lobster roll and lobster mac & cheese. First introduced in 2019, these two dishes always fly off the menu. But get ’em while they’re “hot” — their return to the Panera menu is, once again, for a limited time only.

The Taste of Summer

Long a seasonal staple in New England, the lobster roll has become the unofficial dish of summer in many parts of the country. Panera’s take on this familiar dish pays homage to traditional flavors, featuring lobster claw and knuckle meat piled high into a New England roll. As for the lobster mac and cheese, this returning dish also embraces a mix of tradition and innovation, featuring buttered claw and knuckle lobster meat piled high atop Panera’s ever-popular white cheddar macaroni and cheese, and finished with seasoned panko bread crumbs. It remains to be seen if the chefs got creative with the recipe once again — but no matter how it’s served, it’s bound to be a much-anticipated culinary hit. Availability and pricing for both dishes may vary by location; check the menu at your local Panera before heading out to order these seasonal items.

Don’t despair if your local Panera isn’t featuring the return of lobster dishes. While these seasonal items are only available at locations in the Northeast, Panera has made major efforts at all of its more than 2,100 locations across the U.S. and Canada to upgrade the customer experience by enhancing, expanding and updating its menu. From small upgrades — such as the option to enjoy ranch and balsamic flavorings and the addition of more steak and chicken to many dishes — to more options among the sandwich and salad offerings, the ongoing efforts are earning rave reviews, especially with more new options under $10.

What’s fueling all the exciting new changes at the nearly 40-year-old bakery-cafe, whose first location opened in St. Louis in 1987? It’s quite simple, says Debbie Roberts, Panera’s chief operating officer: At Panera, the overarching mission is to “delight our guests.” Whether that means bringing back fan-favorite dishes such as the lobster roll and lobster mac & cheese, expanding the number of lower-price options on the menu, or simply empowering Panera employees so that they can help optimize the customer experience, Panera is doing everything possible to make that goal a reality.

“Each recipe is filled with ingredients we feel good about and none of those we don’t because we are committed to serving our guests food that feels good in the moment and long after,” states the Panera website. “While our company is now nearly 2,100 bakery-cafes strong, our values and belief in the lasting power of a great meal remain as strong as ever. We spend each day filling bellies, building empowered teams and inspiring communities. Nothing beats breaking bread together.”
